For the first time in the history of the Moriones Festival, Marinduque joined a well renowned festival in Baguio City, the
Panagbenga. Thousands of people from all walks of life particularly those who frequent Baguio City to witness the Panagbenga Festival have seen with their own eyes a replica of Roman Centurions, the Marinduque Morions. The warmth reception of the people as displayed by the swoons and the shouts with great admiration especially when the morion contingent do their drill. The Marinduque Moriones Festival float was already a winning entry from the very start of the parade. The almost exhausted body of the morions because of the 5-hour walking in the stretch of the Session Road to Burnham Park under the scorching heat of the sun were being calmed and revived by the applauding audience.
The Provincial Government of Marinduque under the leadership of the Honorable Governor Jose Antonio N. Carrion thru the Provincial Tourism Council headed by an equally good looking and energetic Council President, Atty. Lord Allan Jay Q. Velasco, succeeded with two thumbs up in their decision to bring the Moriones Festival to Baguio City this March 1, 2009, which opened the door for us to the world market. Usec. Palabyab of the Department of Trade and Industry, as quoted, " Governor Carrion have made a very good decision of bringing the Moriones Festival here in Baguio City" and added, " We want to see you again here next year, with Governor Bong". The natives and officials of Baguio City kept saying "thank you" to Marinduque. Two festivals in one big city!
Board Member Yolando Querubin, Chairman of the Committee on Tourism, was with Atty. Velasco in the Marinduque float. Some members of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan like Jojo Alvarez, Jasper Lao Lim and Allan Nepomuceno and representatives from the six (6) municipalities drove all the way to Baguio City to show their support and cooperation to the PGM's participation to the Panagbenga festival.
